About

What we do and how we do it

GEO is an international non-profit NGO working to enhance the economic, social and environmental benefits of golf.

We are committed to partnering throughout the global golf community to raise standards, provide productive solutions and objectively appraise and recognise performance.

The Golf Environment Organization is supported by a global network of partners, patrons, scientists, thought leaders, industry representatives and major organisations such as The European Tour, European Golf Association, WWF, UNEP, and the Club Managers Associations of Europe and America.

Principles

Good Science

GEO advocates sound scientific understanding of golf’s relationship with the environment, where judgements are based on fact rather than opinion.

Objectivity

GEO speaks openly and honestly about the standard of environmental action in golf. The organisation supports the industry, helping it reflect on both strengths and weaknesses.

Transparency

Openness is central to the delivery of all GEO programmes. Transparency is key to raising awareness of golf's achievements.

Collaboration

GEO believes in a community approach, engaging with partners to improve environmental understanding and performance.

Continual Improvement

Environmental stewardship is a long term process, requiring constant attention and ongoing measurable progress.

Precaution

GEO advocates ‘precaution’ over activities that may threaten human and environmental health, and believes that the burden of proof lies with the proponent of that activity.

Vision

Golf will achieve international recognition for enhancing environmental quality and human well-being.

Mission

GEO will work with the industry to raise standards, achieve tangible outcomes and objectively appraise performance.
