Friday 4 June 2010UPS Joins GEO to Spotlight Sustainability in Golf
North Berwick, Scotland - UPS will now support the sustainability efforts of the golf sector through a new partnership with the Golf Environment Organization (GEO).
UPS is the Official Logistics and Express Sponsor of The European Tour, as well as Official Supplier to The Open Championship. GEO is the only international non-government organization dedicated entirely to helping golf achieve its potential as an asset to people and planet. As a non-profit body, GEO is supported by a global network of golf, environmental, scientific, and corporate partners - all of whom are themselves committed to playing a part in driving the sector’s performance.
GEO’s commitment is to deliver the most up to date, practical and straightforward guidance and recognition in the golf industry, which has recognized the clear business benefits of sustainable development.
In reference to the partnership, Ron Rogowski, Director of Global Sponsorships at UPS added: “We work and support sustainability efforts across many other sectors in which we are active. The Golf Environment Organization has demonstrated to us that they are clearly a well engaged, dynamic partner that has definite plans about how golf can adopt more environmentally-responsible business practices. “
Jonathan Smith, Chief Executive of the Golf Environment Organization responded: “GEO is committed to delivering comprehensive and productive sustainability programming for an international industry. This new partnership with UPS will increase the reach and effectiveness of GEO’s programming, draw attention to achievements in different parts of the sector, and ultimately catalyse wider sustainability action in golf.”
“The commitment of UPS to this movement is a tremendous boost - directly to GEO, but also in the expertise they bring to an industry that is seeking ways to improve the efficiency of its resource consumption and concurrently increase its contribution to the protection of biodiversity.”
The announcement comes on the back of a busy few weeks for GEO. In March the world’s leading golf architect associations and institutes backed GEO’s framework guidelines for sustainable golf developments. Two weeks later the organization’s input into the ‘Sustainability in Sport’ expert panel of the Sport Accord Convention in Dubai was well received, and last week they were in Belek chairing the environmental Q&A at the KPMG Golf Business Forum.
