Environmental Restoration
Golf can make a real difference. It can have a massive positive impact on rejuvenating degraded sites, cleansing contaminated land and restoring environmental quality in diverse locations. From sand and gravel quarries to landfill and superfund sites, to places that have been used to deposit fill and other inert waste materials, golf development can breathe new life into landscapes and communities.
Golf development can transform degraded and impoverished landscapes into biodiversity rich habitat - places that contribute to environmental quality and human health.
Transformation
The combination of economic development, recreation and environmental enrichment make golf a potent force for change and improvement in the places that need it most. This works to generate political and financial support for golf projects.
Golf developers and their teams should approach sites with vision and creativity, recognising the potential to position the sport as a transformative force. The challenge is to create a development that helps to revive a site while creating a resource for the benefit of as many people as possible. A degraded, lifeless space can become a new landscape enjoyed by all and providing a habitat for biodiversity.
A focus on the creation of appropriate new ecosystems should be a priority. A naturalised landscape with diverse and inter-connected ecosystems will aesthetically transform a site, but also enable ecosystems to act as long term, ongoing biological and chemical treatment centres.
Golf as an agent for real environmental restoration, and real social transformation.

Jinji Lake Golf Club
Jinji Lake Golf Club provides over 100 hectares of green space, wildlife habitat, and wetlands in the midst of Suzhou Industrial Park. But this did not happen by accident. It is all created on a parcel of reclaimed land in this highly-urbanized area. Efforts are ongoing to enhance the ecological potential on the property.
