Nature

Set within a 104Ha site in the town of Belek, near Antalya, on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, The Montgomerie at Papillon Golf Club has been developed to maximize the natural environment. While the indigenous fauna would have been dune grasses, the land was used by the Turkish Government’s Forestry Department as a commercial timber forest for many years, destroying most of the native vegetation and landform in favor of pine timber stock and eucalyptus plantation. In the 1990’s, a decision was made by the Government to turn these forested areas into tourism zones and the area of Belek Turizm was conceived.
The Montgomerie Course has been developed with the intention of softening the un-natural impact of tree plantation and, at the same time as easing the visual impact, steps have been taken to try to improve the ecological value of the land.
On the course we have a wide range of wildlife species including tortoises, lizards, squirrels and foxes.


The Montgomerie Papillon Golf Club Türkiye'nin Akdeniz kıyısında Antalya yakınlarında Belek kasabasında 104 hektarlık bir alanda doğal çevreyi maksimize etmek için geliştirilmiştir. Alan kendine has yerli faunası ve kumul toprağı ile kalması gerekirken Türk Hükümeti'nin Orman Bakanlığı tarafından uzun yıllar ticari kereste ormanı olarak kullanıldı. Bu işlemler olurken doğal bitki örtüsü tahrip oldu ve birçok okaliptus ve çam plantasyonu yok oldu. 1990’lara gelindiğinde Türk Hükümeti bu ormanlık alanların turizm bölgesine çevrilmesine karar verdi ve Belek Turizmi başladı.
Montgomerie Sahası insan tarafından yapılan ağaç ekiminin daha doğal görünmesini sağlamak ve arazinin ekolojik değerini arttırmak amacıyla amacıyla geliştirilmiştir.
Sahada yaban hayatına ait olarak çok sayıda kaplumbağa, kertenkele, sincap, tilki gibi hayvanlar yaşamaktadır.

Landscape & Heritage

As mentioned in the Nature Section of this Report, the site had, prior to development of the resort, been used as a commercial forest. As such, most of the landform and native fauna has been aggressively removed from the site. The soils are predominantly sandy, with little agricultural value, hence prior to use for timber production, the land was untouched as far back as we have been able to research.

Water

Being a limited resource in an area such as Belek, water use is closely monitored to ensure efficacy of application and usage. The irrigation supply is currently abstracted from a local river. The intention is to move to TSE water supplied from the local treatment plant once this becomes operational in the next two years. Current peak water consumption is 3000m3 daily.
The irrigation system is controlled by a Rainbird Cirrus control system, aided by a weather station. Valve in head control is prevalent throughout the course.

Turf

At The Montgomerie we have bent grass (A1) greens year round. Our aim is to minimize pesticide applications through sound agronomic practices .We operate a deep infrequent watering program, to minimize canopy moisture and disease pressure providing a good root system. On our fairways, roughs and tees we operate a two grass policy. Every September we overseed our Bermuda (419) fairways with Ryegrass, to provide quality playing surfaces during our golf season. During the spring we will gradually stress the ryegrass through cultural methods to return to Bermuda grass during the summer months.


Montgomerie’de yıl boyu yeşil A1 bentgrass green’lerimiz var. Amacımız agronomik uygulamalar yaparak pestisit uygulamalarını en aza indirmektir. Waste

At The Montgomerie, our aim is to minimise waste materials across the whole operation. To that end, we are encouraging suppliers to send materials in either re-usable or recyclable containers. We are taking bulk deliveries of materials instead of smaller, more packaged, deliveries.
Organic waste generated on site is mulched, and re-used on the grounds. We are reducing the amount of organic waste generated by ceasing to collect clippings throughout most of the course.
Waste that cannot be re-used or recycled is sent to landfill. We are looking to reduce the amount of material sent to landfill year on year and are maintaining records of this to ensure compliance.


Montgomerie olarak amacımız tüm operasyon genelinde atık maddeleri en az miktara indirgemektir. Bu amaçla, tedarikçileri yeniden kullanılabilen ya da dönüştürülebilen malzemeler göndermeleri için teşvik etmekteyiz. Malzemelerimizi daha ufak ve fazlaca paketlenmiş olarak değil büyük kütleler halinde alıyoruz.
