- The ecoligical objective is to continue to improve the greater biodiversity of the Golf Course and it's surrounds beyond the levels of the previous land use and current levels.
Landscape & Heritage
Historically, Kau Sai Chau was used as a military firing range, and within the Island, until recently there still was visible evidence of this former activity on the hillside where the thin scrubland cover had been exposed and there had been extensive washout of soil from the hillside during rainfall. The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course undertook a revegetation program of the damaged areas in measures to to return it to the natural landscape. There are also a number of graves scattered around the north end of the island, some of which are in the golf course.

- The objective in conserving and enhancing the landscape and cultural heritage values at the Golf Course is to encourage an awareness and educate the public of those values.
Water
The golf courses are constructed to effectively collect rainfall which is stored in reservoirs for recycling as irrigation for the turfgrass. About 70% of the North and South Courses turf area return rainfall to the reservoir. The new East Course has been designed with a closed drainage system providing 100% return through a system of 5 underground tanks and 2 lakes with supporting pumping systems, rising mains, and gravity flows back to an irrigation lake for recycling as irrigation water on the East Course.
In the dry season, the stored water for East Course irrigation is supplemented with desalinated water through our reverse osmosis plant to irrigate turfgrass.
The Golf Course has its own Sewage Treatment Plant which treats raw sewage well within HK Government statutory controls. This is then recycled as irrigation through the main reservoir. Golf Course irrigation at Kau Sai Chau is self sustained without any draw on government mains.

Aims & Objectives
The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course has the following key objectives for conserving water quality and minimizing water consumption:
Turf
The turf species used at Kau Sai Chau were selected for their beneficial aspects towards the enivronment. The Bermudagrass that was planted in the North and South Courses since 1994 is able to provide good playing surfaces and tolerate high traffic with minimal chemical usage for low maintenace. The new East Course was planted with Seashore Paspalum in 2007. This grass is able to tolerate multiple stress tolerances, tolerate a wide range of alternative water resources and has a lower nutrient requirment.
To maintain good playing surfaces all year round, The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course implement regular and varied mini-aeration activities at 4- 6 week intervals to relieve compaction, improve infiltration and enhance air movement in the root zone. We also undertake three major deep aeration programs during spring and summer on greens. Topdressing of the greens occurs every two weeks to provide firm and smooth putting surface.

Nutrition
The turfgrass nutrition program follows the Turfgrass Management Plan that was set during construction of the golf courses as part of the Environmental Monitoring and Audit for the projects. We have a planned soil testing program to determine the nurtient status and overall health of the soil in different growing seasons. Every 6 months (March and November) we carry out soil and tissue test at designated greens, tees, and fairways. Every 3 months, we are monitioring designated greens. This helps to determine the optimum nutrient provisions for the turfgrass and not affecting the environmental conditions, slow release fertilizers will be used together with spoon feeding through foliar applications.

Pest & Disease Control
We are using an 'Integrated Pest Mangement Program' at the golf courses for pest and disease control. We use both chemical control and physical methods to remove and control pests. Beetle traps are set up at high infested areas, soil temperatures are monitored, mapping of the golf courses for pests and scouting with soapy flush to identy pest life cycles.
The timing of irrigation is also managed and scheduled to suppress diseases in Seashore paspalum. For disease control, greens are the only areas receiving fungicides on a preventative basis.
Biological agents are also used for pest control and the golf course has developed its own bacteria and fungi on armyworms control.

Aims & Objectives
The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course has the following key objectives for reducing, re-using and recycling waste, and minimizing resource consumption at source:
- The Key objectives with regard to waste management at the Golf Course is to maximize usage of recylable product, handle what waste generated in a responsible manner and to maximise efficiency for each usage.
Energy
The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course, over the past few years, has vigorously persued new and innovative ways in which it can better manage and reduce energy consumption at the Golf Course.
It is anticipated that current practices will be further improved and that a clearly defined path of continuous improvement and awareness will be realised by means of a full energy audit of the facilities which is to be undertaken in the second half of 2010 .
Regarding the electrical consumption, the Golf Course initiated in 2009 the introduction of Solar panels on golf carts, as world first fleet wide program, to supplement grid sourced electrical charging of the batteries. The Golf Course anticipates that a 30 tonne reduction in carbon output will result annually as against past perfomances. Other electrical practices include practicle endeavors such as the use energy efficient light bulbs through out the facility and an improved awareness on the usage of electrical equipment.
The Golf Course annual diesel consumption is in the process of significant reduction through the introduction of Hybrid Ferries which will replace the traditional powered service which has been in place since opening the facilities for transportation of customers to the Golf Course. As a result a reduction of 40 - 50% in diesel consumption is anticipated each year which is supported by commissioning tests over the second quarter of 2010.
