2010 Ryder Cup

The opportunity to make a real difference, in practice and by example, is another way in which golf can be a leader in sustainable sport. And with hundreds of millions of spectators, these efforts can be amplified widely.


2016 RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing (PGA Tour) - Harbour Town Golf Links, USA

The 2016 RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing was hosted at Harbour Town Golf Links, Sea Pines Resort, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. 

RBC Heritage LogoIn 2016, event sponsor the Heritage Classic Foundation and its partners decided to highlight sustainability initiatives in place at South Carolina’s only PGA TOUR golf tournament while simultaneously establishing a baseline to support improvement moving forward. As a result, the Sustainability Review, produced by GEO, summarizes the sustainability initiatives and carbon emissions associated with the 2016 RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing. KLM Open (European Tour) – Kennemer Golf & Country Club, Netherlands

For a number of years, the KLM Open has been working to make the event one of the leading sustainable sports events in Europe. KLM Open

Held this year at GEO Certified® Kennemer Golf and Country Club, the KLM Open is a climate neutral tournament; where the footprint of the event is reduced, measured and then compensated for. Event organizers This Is Golf, receive positive and willing efforts from partners, sponsors and suppliers in staging the event. 

Lyoness Open by Greenfinity (European Tour) – Diamond Country Club, Atzenbrugg, Austria

The Lyoness Open is hosted in partnership with Greenfinity, a foundation involved in sustainable projects. The ecological footprint was measured for the first time in 2012 at Diamond Country Club.Greenfinity Logo

Data was collected in order to determine the footprint of the event which has raised awareness of the resources involved in staging a large event. Greenfinity aims to minimize the Lyoness Open’s footprint over the coming years through well-targeted resource efficiency, ecological projects and compensation activities.

Allianz Championship (PGA Champions Tour) – Broken Sound Club, Florida, USA

This event is held at the GEO Certified® Broken Sound Club in Boca Raton, Florida. Allianz Championship

Known as one of the most innovative and forward thinking golf clubs when it comes to sustainability, utilizing Broken Sound’s food composter is central to the Allianz Championship’s aim to be the first zero waste event on the PGA Champions Tour. Additional ambitions of the event include a 30% reduction in carbon footprint and being powered by renewable energy.

Ryder Cup 2010 – Celtic Manor, Wales

A flagship green sporting event and biennial highlight on the world golf schedule, The 2010 Ryder Cup was one of the most environmentally responsible, large golf events ever staged - reducing resource consumption, raising awareness and showcasing innovation. 2010 Ryder Cup
