Alexandra Betâmio de Almeida is a Land Use & Urban Planning Engineering, with a background in environmental planning and design. The focus of her work for the past 16 years has been on sustainable golf development, promoting the systematic and coherent implementation of sustainability assessment tools in the golf sector. Through her long-standing work as a consultant for the Portuguese Golf Federation, she has gained valuable insights and experience in the international arena and golf governance. She has also worked on case studies preparing guidance for projects affecting designated sites and plans concerned with urban/rural development. Issues around biodiversity, water resources, flooding, green building, community involvement and stakeholder engagement have been a particular interest. In recent years Alexandra has collaborated with several different golf governing bodies and sport organizations, such as the European Golf Association, GEO and the Portuguese Olympic Committee (POC). Alexandra is currently Chairman of the POC Sport and Environment Commission and member of the EGA Sustainable Golf Committee. Alexandra is a qualified Lead Auditor, Environmental Management Systems ISO 14001 since 2005 and has become an Accredited GEO Adviser/Verifier in 2009. She also writes for Golf Digest Portugal magazine on Golf and Sustainable Development.
Alexandra Betâmio de Almeida is an expert in the fields of Sustainable Golf Development, Strategic Planning, Environmental Impact Assessments and EMS. She received her Degree (5-year MEng.) in Territorial (Land Use/Urban Planning) Engineering at Technical University of Lisbon-School of Engineering (IST) and is a registered Professional Engineer with over 14 years of experience in Tourism and Sustainable Development.
The focus of her work for the past 14 years has been on sustainable golf development, promoting the systematic and coherent implementation of environmental programmes and management tools in the golf sector. During this time Alexandra has collaborated with several different golf governing bodies and organizations, Portuguese Golf Federation and Golf Environment Organization included, developing a vast number of case studies with cutting-edge golf projects.
Alexandra is also a qualified Lead Auditor for ISO 14001 since 2005 and has become an GEO Sustainability Adviser/Verifier in 2009 (http://www.golfenvironment.org/geosa/alexandra-almeida). She is a frequent speaker at conferences and a regular contributor to Golf Digest Portugal magazine since 2010.
