Habitats & Designations

This golf facility features the following landscape designations:

Description Designating Authority
Historic Landscapes / Parklands Local government
Areas of Scenic Beauty Local government
Geological Local government

Area of habitats / vegetation types, and associated designations at this golf facility:

Title Estimated Area (Hectares) Designation
Rough 'ecological' grassland 8.71 Self Appointed
Scrub Vegetation 7.91 Self Appointed
Wetlands 25.14 Self Appointed
Open Water Features 17.62 Self Appointed

Turfgrass

Size and estimated species composition of amenity turfgrass maintained at this golf facility.

Estimated Area (Hectares) Turfgrass Species Sward Composition (%)
Greens 2.2 Hectares Agrostis stolonifera / palustris 100%
Tees 1.6 Hectares Cynodon transvaalensis 100%
Fairways 15.5 Hectares Cynodon transvaalensis 100%
Semi Rough 50.0 Hectares Cynodon transvaalensis 100%

These turfgrasses are optimal for the circumstances at this club because:
Bermuda 419 (cynodon transvaalensis) for fairway and rough has been selected for local subtropical monsoon climate. The links Nine bermuda grass sward is framed by tall fescue rough. The tall fescue rough needs low mantainance, which lower our yearly maintenance budget. And the uniform grass of fairway and rough also ruduce the mantainance stress. We use creeping bentgrass A4 on greens fo its good performance of disease ,stress resistance and cold tolerance, and for its good playability.

This golf facility consults the following individuals / organizations regarding its grassing plan:

  • IMG

This golf facility is making the following efforts to manage the playing quality expectations of customers:

Activity Description
Establishing clear internal policies for irrigation, fertilization, colour, cutting heights, overseeding etc We have internal IPM manual which sets operational processes, frequency and integrated pest management strandards for the course. Consistently applied turf management operations are based on real rather than historical data.
Promoting the playing quality values of more naturalized turf, particularly fairways and semi-rough Our Links nine, features Tall Fescue out of play Rough which is totally naturlized. The Fescue rough is not irrigated or fertilized and is never mown.
Promoting the financial benefits of presenting sustainable surfaces We try to manage only the area required for playability and to match our members enjoyment, which is taken into consideration when formulating our maintenance budget.
Improving customer understanding around greens maintenance We publish a monthly newsletter extolling the virtues of our course maintenance practices. We use this to inform our members about our cultural practices, mowing regimes, chemical use and also wider environmental activities.
Demonstrating the direct relationship between environmental best practice and year round high quality playing surfaces IMG has been leading Jinji Lake Golf Club since its inception, to become one of the most well managed and professional maintained golf course in China. We have become one of the top Private Clubs in the country in quality and service by providing a more environmentally sound golf course to our members.

Conservation & Enhancement

This golf facility is undertaking the following activities to conserve landscape character:

Activity Description
Allowing seasonal variation of course coloration and texture We do not overseed the entire golf course, and as the Bermuda grass to goes dormant in the winter, we allow for a mojority of the course to be off colour, and green up naturally in the spring. In 2010, we have planted hundreds of shrubs and habitat patches for the texuring and also enlarge habitat areas for bird and small animals on the course.
Appropriately matching mowing lines to contours We have distinctive contoured fairways on Links Course but relatively flat landscape on Forest Course and Wetlands Course. We try to use those liitle contours we have and accentuate them through carefully planned mowing patterns.
Discreet on-course signage and furniture We try to use as many environmentally friendly products as we can to create a human-nature harmony atomosphere in the club. Our tee signage is made from local rock, and is low level.
Screening and softening unsightly man-made features As our Forest nine has lights for night golf with telescopic poles, we have planted trees and shrubs around the light posts block them from view.
Landscape Our landscape is 100% engineered, and it's easier for us to renovate it by careful planing. Our future plan will be focus on enhancing the individual character for our Wetlands course and Forest courses.

This golf facility is undertaking the following activities to improve the landscape ecology of the golf course:

Activity Description
Increasing the size of habitat patches We added several habitat patches along fairways and roughs, which connect part of internal habitat areas for birds and other wild animals.
Creation of habitat corridors We create corridors along the lake banks to connect each habitat area by keeping the easements along the canals natural for wildlife to traverse.
Avoidance of habitat fragmentation We renovate those poor habitat patches along cart paths of wetlands course to avoid habitat fragmentation.
Improving and diversifying habitat edges we plant different species of brushes and small arbors between water harzard and landscaping zone

This golf facility is undertaking the following activities to improve the quality of habitats on the golf course:

Activity Description
Creation of botanically rich rough grassland We have tall fascue as rough grassland of Links course, which needs minimal maintenance and also serves as a habitat for wildlife.
Maintenance of an appropriate balance of open water and aquatic vegetation We trim the aquatic plants once a year, which occupied a large area of water hazard surfaces,to supply necessary spaces for aquatics to thive.
Naturalization of linear habitats We try to avoid machinary impact on the habitat areas.

This golf facility is undertaking the following activities to conserve and enhance biodiversity on the golf course:

Activity Description
Diversify the buffer zones We try to diversify the the buffer zones surrounding the wetlands to improve the biodiversity of the golf course and increase the naturalization of the landscaping

Water

Jinji Lake golf club is located between Jinji Lake and Dushu Lake, the plenty of water from Dushu Lake insure the water supply for irrigation system. The grass species and choice of planting at Jinji Lake are appropriate for transitional climate of Suzhou industrial park, which is the fundamental support for water saving program. we only water our golf courses when we need to ,preferring a more firm and fast approach riding the edge of wilt. We try to set those variable heads to only water the turf and oranmental plantings without throwing into the cart pathes and lakes.

We strictly control the pesticide usage along the banks of water hazards, rivers and lakes to minimize the damage to the water source of Dushu Lake and Jinji Lake.
